Headboard Upcycled into Handwritten Shop Sign

Last month we got this lovely commission: make the sign for a new children's clothes shop that was about to open in the neighbourhood!

We transformed the headboard of an old bed frame -well, technically, the footboard -, using chalkboard paint for the central panel and a self-made light gray enamel paint for the ornated solid wood edges and the board underneath.
The lettering and kid-inspired drawings are handwritten, also using water based enamel paint. Check the pictures here below for further details.

Measures: main sign, 170 x 70cm; board underneath 230 x 60cm

**Big Family Kids shop is in 25, Carrer Parlament -Barcelona - Open Hours from Monday to Saturday, 10:00 - 14:00 & 17:00 - 20:30h **You can also visit their Facebook page!

A series of pictures taken during the MAKING OF process:
The Headboard, before its transformation -on the right, taking the legs and other extra bits out
Sanding the whole piece, then painting it with a self-made light gray tone
Distressing, plus applying the chalkboard paint and painting the board that would go underneath
The main part of the sign, finished! Then, hand painting the second board
