Vintage Belgian Train Scrolls into Unique Cushions

On my latest visit to my ex-hometown, dear Brussels, I came upon a series of train scrolls from the 1950's that were sold at a local Antiques shop. And I couldn't resist. Who could? They were huge, rather long pieces of strong cotton canvas, hand printed with the names of the train stops in bold colours and an extremely attractive graphic vintage style.

So I've saved the widest ones to make framed posters (more on that later), and used the 70cm wide ones to sew them into cushions, using softer cotton canvas and cotton tissue in bright red for the back pieces. The edges are joined with overlock stitches in black that allow the designs that are too close to the brim to still be seen. It also looks really nice!

Measures: 70cm long and 28cm or 23cm wide, some are narrower -ideal for sofas and beds.
And here is the result:

I got the precious help of Lidia to make the cushions; she's a great, neat seamstress: thaks a ton, Lidia!

Here on the right, cutting the scrolls. They were so long that we had to clean up (in both senses) a huge portion of the floor to be able to handle the delicate task.
