Shabby-Chic End Table

I got this table some time ago in Brussels: it was robust solid wood, nicely shaped and generous in size, but too dark with its Colonial look (so in vogue at the end of the last Century, but not that much now).

This finish was really hiding the lovely French curved legs, caned shelf and delicate features of the table -it needed an update!

I have painted it in a soft off-white tone, then distressed certain areas to add interest and highlight the different curves, nooks and crannies. The table is protected with clear varnish and polished for a soft, satin touch.

Measures: top surface diameter 66cm, caned surface diameter 53cm, height 58cm.

MAKING OF: Here on the right, a pic taken mid-work to give an idea on how the table looked like before its updating -I forgot to make the 'before' shot!

Below: First of all, fixing one of the legs that was a wee loose. Then, sanding the whole table.
Painting with several layers of self-made off-white acrylic paint.
Carefully distressing the surfaces.
Varnishing and, finally, polishing the whole table.
