Z: A Robot for Kids
Z is a *very* mean robot! Or so my dear little nephew says... the truth is that, despite his fierce mouth and that some of his buttons are meant to spit laser rays and bombs, he also has one plug for restoring things as they were before, and his bright colours will cheer you up immediately.
Made for -and in collaboration with- 6 year old Leo, Robot Z was one of the funniest projects to date. We chosed the wooden blocks to make his body and head, the different screws, washers, beads, bits and bobs to form his robotic features and decided how he would move (wheels were too complex to make with the elements at hand, so a bright red planning platform with a rubber trim seemed the second best option).
He chose the name, did the painting (blue is his favourite colour), some screwing and plenty of voice-over. I did the dangerous stuff, like drilling, plus general design and supervision. Fun fun fun!
Z can rotate both his head and arms 360 degrees, and it is completely safe and solid.
Measures: 7x 5cm, 18cm high.

Painting with 'real' paint requires concentration... and a thorough washing afterwards!
The Robot Engineer, choosing the parts to make the face.
Final assembling touches. The hardest part was to wait for the adhesive to dry, so we could start playing!
