Strippy Chair Number 2

Remember the first Strippy Chair from a year ago? I cherished the design so much that I have been looking for a similar frame to build a second one ever since I sold the original one, many months ago.

And so, when I came upon this one, also in solid birch and from the late 50s -only this chair was manufactured in the Czech Republic and has some crossbars in the back and legs-, I knew exactly what to do with it!

Strippy Chair Number 2 has exceeded its former sister! Judge for yourself: check the 'making of' section of this post below for a full description, and have a look at the pictures for a view from every angle and some close-ups.

Measures: 78cm high, seat 38x 38,5cm and 46cm high.

The chair, prior its transformation. I just took off the damaged top layers of the seat, as I wanted to keep the bottom part in which the original label that reads 'Made in Cz[ech] Republic' can be found.
Selecting the boards that would make the seat, and cutting the template on a piece of thin cardboard
Cutting the old blue board in two long pieces, and sawing all pieces to fit the seat shape
Treating the wood, then -once the recommended time passed- distressing the boards slightly
Sanding the structure of the chair, painting the back rest in a self made off-white tone...
... as well as the two bars in the back in light blue and dark brown to match the coloured boards. Distressing those surfaces as well.
Fastening the boards to the seat of the chair, then filling the tiny gaps with woodfiller paste (and some more sanding, not shown)
To end up with several coats of clear varnish and a good polishing to get a smooth, satin finish.
