This huge, late 60s mirror, had a lovely oval shape and profusedly decorated frame. But its gloomy faded brass finish was in serious need of a refreshed look, so it was a real pleasure to get commissioned for the revamping!
The customer wanted a 'shabby-chic' finish in white, so I mixed some enamel paint to get a creamy, off-white tone. Then distressed the surface to reveal the classical carvings, and finally applied an almost clear varnish to enhance the irregularities even more. There: a much more interesting and 'younger' piece that is now a focal point in its owner's bedroom!
Above: The mirror, prior its renovation. Below: Applying several coats of creamy white paint after preparing the surface, then different methods of sanding to create a distressed effect.
