Custom: Repaired Thonet Coat Rack

I just love commissions like this one! The customer came in with a sad face and this lovely coat rack from the beginning of the 20th Century, Thonet style in bent beech wood. It had been really useful at their entrance, but the left arm broke and it was obvious that it was beyond repair... 1Unik to the rescue!
I rummaged in my 'hangers-and-hooks' storing corner and came up with an old curved one that used to belong to a Thonet coat stand. The shape was similar enough, and the commissioner agreed on letting the differences show, so I took away the broken piece, moved the central arm of the original rack to the left, fastened the replacement in the middle -keeping its original tilt, that is less vertical than the one on a wall hanger- and treated the whole set to get an even finish. The polishing was the final treat for this cute piece of furniture, and the customer was more than pleased with the result: yay! Great happy ending.

Above: The parts, before -just removed the broken arm. Below: Sanding the replacement and then mounting the 'new' coat hanger. Then it would come the varnishing and polishing of the whole piece.
