Black and Red Foulard
And this is the other foulard from October: a striking combination of black and red! It is the 5th, along with the Gray, Brown, Dark Blue and the Light Blue ones -And my favourite so far.
The pattern is an almost symmetric display of wavy parallel lines plus concentric circles that covers the whole surface. It kind of reminds me of those vintage ones from the sixties and seventies...
The black thread is meant to create shadows and 'volume' more than a visible effect, which is left to the red stitches... no need for any more addings, me thinks. Sorry once more for the lousy pictures!
Light Blue Foulard
Been terribly busy since more than a month ago... having no time for crafting drives me nuts! But at least I managed to 'draw' a bunch of stitches in a couple of foulards last month. Here is the light blue one: soft in the colours and soft in the flowery curvy pattern.
Like in some of the previous ones (see the Blue one, and the Brown one), in order to stress some of the lines I have added buttons of different kinds, searching for harmony instead of contrast... I hope you can get a fair idea of the result, despite the crappy pics *sigh*.
Blue foulard
After the first embroided foulard and the brown one, this time it was ok to use bright colours -yay!. So (don't trust the horrid pictures, they're a disgrace... urgently need a proper camera!) I used a light lima green to stitch the pattern on the deep turquoise blue of the fabric. And sewed big buttons on top, yellow and green.
Being quite lively just because of the colours, for this piece I chose to do a more straight pattern, and the lines only get whirly at their end. The design is still rather organic, as it was for the other ones that I made before, and different on both sides of the foulard. The brim gets emphasized with a row of buttons, that also make the piece of material fall nicely when worn.
Brown foulard
Remember that first foulard made in July? Well, here it comes the second round at playing with the sewing machine... again it is a present, and again I couldn't get off the hook with colour or stitching because it wouldn't suit the lady receiver.
You surely won't be able to tell from the terrible pictures, but the colours of this one are shades of brown: dark chocolate (stitches) on 'caffè latte' (the material).
Still, staying in a harmonious range of colours doesn't have to be boring! I decided to liven up the browns by sewing different kinds of buttons here and there, to accentuate certain parts of the design. They also give 'weigh' to the fabric when worn, making it dangle nicely from the shoulders...

One more detail that I hope it contributes to set this piece far from boring is the trim- intentionally shabby, but also with flounces and tiny buttons to give the 'chic' touch.
Also, to add up to the fun, the design is different on both ends of the foulard. I don't like symmetry, me. Not always. Not here, anyway. I wanted to achieve a sober-yet-non-stiff result... accomplished? Let's see what the birthday lady says.
Embroided foulard
It had to happen. Finally, I've set my hands on a sewing machine.... but using it to make cushions left me with an 'empty' feeling.
Not creative enough; I needed to see if I could 'draw' with my new toy machine! So back in June I came up with this playful design: a foulard all covered in whirly stitches.
As the material is similar to that in teeshirts, I used a stretch stitch. This makes a funny pattern and gives a puffy look to the garment, like in quilts.
Now, this is more like it: I've had fun and I guess I'll be sewing more items in this way... probably using more colour next time (this one was going to be a birthday present, and what suited the girl's style was a soft calm piece). We'll see.
