Renewed Antique Single Hanger

The cast iron hanger was attached to a very old door (19th Century) that I salvaged for a future project (more on that to come!). I liked its shape, and decided to give it a proper cleaning. It was a lovely surprise to discover underneath all the crusts of rust the bearded face of a man, sporting impressive eyebrows and a curly moustache as well!

This funny guy deserved some recognition, so I 'framed' him with a wooden moulding rosette taken from a vintage cabinet door. I painted the hook white and the base turquoise, then created a distressed effect to make all the carvings and shapes stand out, and protected it all with clear satin varnish. Ta-daa! A useful, original wall hanger, perfect for any room in the house. 16cm diameter.
This is the look of the iron piece before the scraping and cleaning, and the two parts that were to be the hanger, before the treatment... from sad to happy, I'd say!
