'Caballero' Teak and Pine Coffee Table

I recently finished this big coffee table: it's made with the restored structure of a teak, asian style table, and reclaimed solid pinewood boards taken from 1940s huge wine boxes -still sporting a lovely vintage logo- for the top.

'Luis Caballero S.A.' is a renown wine and spirits Spanish brand, founded at the end of the 19th Century in Cádiz (Andalusia). And it's still in business!

Check the pictures below and the thorough 'Making Of' section for further details.

Measures: 80 x 80cm, 35cm high.

The MAKING OF: the structure, prior its restoration. It was in a worse state than the picture may lead to think... I had to strenghten the legs,
Fill some cracks with wood putty and do some general repairs
Before I could place the plywood board that would support the table top -and strip off the old finish entirely.
After that, I was able to stain the structure (in a warm, teak tone that suited it and the pinewood boards logos best)
Then it was the turn of the table top: the three old pinewood boards almost fitted perfectly, but of course I had to sand,
cut and adjust them (including this 'patching' shown in the right hand side picture)
Fitting the boards, and filling the gaps with wood putty
The final steps: Stain and varnish for the underside, several coats of clear varnish for the whole piece, and a good polish for a smooth, satin touch.

And here is a Christmas card I found searching information about the 'Caballero' brand in internet: it's from 1944, and it shows the wooden boxes with the same logo! Thrilling.
