Restored Free Standing Thonet Coat Rack




A lovely free standing coat and hat rack from the first decades of the 20th Century, in solid beech and Thonet style.

It got completely stripped off of the old varnish and hideous gold spray paint that covered it, then stained and polished for a smooth, satin finish.

Two of the original curved hooks were broken, so I replaced them with similar ones from another old coat rack that I had in my stash -I replaced three of them to make an even display, as the top part has six double hooks-.

Measures: 185cm high, top part 46cm diameter, feet 54cm wide.

Here below, some pictures taken during THE RESTORATION PROCESS: sanding all the pieces, then staining them and, once polished (not shown), mounting all the parts back in place: the top was a little tricky!
