Upcycled Lantern Sconce
Another fine commision! The customer had this 70s sconce that she found in her terrace when moved into her new flat. Not very nice as it was, but with great potential, especially with that lovely green glass shade.
She asked me if I could get rid of all the dirt and the chunky pole and transform it into a kind of 'wall pendant' to put it next to her bed. 'It will be my pleasure' was the answer -and it surely was a fun project to make!
We agreed on using an arm of a former coat stand to hang the lamp, also on painting it in an off-white colour to liven it up, and she chose a grey coloured cord to match the decoration of her room.
The result is a cute, fresh looking lantern sconce that gives a lovely light when it's on. And the best part of this all? I got three lanterns more off her, one with a green glass like this one and two with orange glass, so I can build more lamps, yay!
Measures: the lantern is 14cm high, 20cm diameter, the hanger is 36cm high and the cord over 2 meters long.
The sconce, almost in its original state -I had already taken the arm and rusted bulb socket off. Then it would come a thorough scraping and cleaning. On the right, the main parts used to make the lamp.
First of several paint coats (no need for primer, as the original surface was pretty rough already). Mounting the new bulb socket.
Drilling a new hole in the hanger and wiring the plug.
Mounting the switch -and, finally, testing the lamp: fine!
