A very charming end table in solid beech wood with nice proportions and the perfect size for standing next to a sofa -with a table lamp, a bar, some decor... it is signed underneath the tabletop, displaying the design name, German maker and year of manufacture: 1958.
I have thoroughly sanded the whole piece, staining both surfaces with a darkened mahogany tone that adds a nice contrast with the natural colour of the beech wood left in the rest of the structure. It is also varnished and then polished for a smooth, satin finish.
Measures: 40 x 70cm, 60cm high
The table in its original state: the top surface was once painted in a creamy colour, but got quite damaged through time. Time for a makeover!
Sanding the whole piece, and stripping the old layers of paint and varnish on the tabletop
The paint stripper was not enough, and loads of manual sanding were needed afterwards
Staining both the shelf and top surface with several layers of mixed tones. Finally, varnishing the whole piece. (Then I assembled it back again and polished it, not shown)
