'Dogs' Chair

A cute, colourful chair that is the result of restoring and updating an originally caned seat one, in Thonet style and solid beech wood, from the beginning of the 20th Century.

Apart from the broken caned bottom and some minor wood worm damage, the structure was in mint condition.

I decided to leave the original creamy-yellow colour with its slight distressing in most of the chair, just painting the ring that holds the legs and the three turning bars of the back rest in turquoise and dark red colours to match the découpage of the new seat: a lovely, colourful 'patchwork' of vintage pictures of dogs (protected with several coats of clear varnish).

Measures: diameter of the seat 41cm, seat height 45cm, back height 91cm

The 'making of'
I forgot to take a 'before' picture of the chair, but it is easy to imagine it as it was: all yellow and with a broken caned seat. Removing it was the first thing to do.
Then, treating the wood and, once healed, filling the holes one by one.
Filling the gap where the original caned seat was attached, and sanding those parts of the structure that would be painted later on.

Painting some parts of the chair with self-made colours
The découpage on the  new plywood seat, and varnishing it afterwards.
