So this one also uses a small European pallet with metallic bits on the sides, is mainly red and has an industrial flavour, but the top is made out of gorgeous, salvaged thick pine boards with different widths, displayed in rows and painted or stained to create an interesting pattern that matches the customer's decoration as well.
I have attached two long boards underneath the pallet to 'close up' the design and add a little bit more of heigth. The four industrial casters have a cute red brim and thick black rubber wheels that won't damage the floor and are able to stand heavy loads (the table itself is pretty heavy!)
The whole pice is protected with several coats of clear varnish, a specially strong one that is even suitable for flooring, so the table won't suffer from the occasional scratch or spill. I have also polished it to obrain a smooth, sating finish.
And here it is: a pallet coffee table that not only looks rather original but is extremely durable and spills-proof!
Some pictures taken during the making process: selecting the boards to go on top ,and the casters
Painting the pallet in vibrant red, to match the parts that had that colour originally. Then, I would attach the long boards underneath (and paint them as well)
Sanding the top surface boards, and filling the holes in a couple of them
Staining the dark boards, painting red another three...
...the top surface with all the boards painted and stained.
Then, it came the distressing (both for the boards and the whole pallet structure), and several coats of varnish -underneath
-and on top. To end up with a good polishing to get a great finish.
