One of the few things I couldn't resist to take home were a set of gorgeous wooden molds from the beginning of the 20th Century, the kind they used to make by hand as a prototype to build the definitive, metallic ones. They were painted in bright red and had black letters and numbers written on the side -the guide for the guy who would later nail the same code on the brim, using tiny metallic characters.
All of them are different, being a prototype, and I decided to use 5 of the round-shaped ones to make some unique mirrors. They look great hung in groups, but will also make a fabulous accent piece on their own!
Here they are, one by one, in full detail:
MIRROR WITH CODE #180-042-RL2
The second biggest: 32cm in diameter, and quite deep -8cm.
The mirror is 15cm diameter.
I have painted the top ring of the 'frame' black and distressed it to match the rest. It is protected with clear varnish and polished for a smooth, satin finish.
Picture hanger at the back.
MIRROR WITH CODE #180-04-RLH 3 4
A very original 'truncated circle' shape, diameter 27,5cm. Also varnished and polished to get a smooth, satin finish.
I have adapted a vintage mirror with a neat, elegant chrome frame (17cm diameter) that goes well with the metallic code on the side of the mold.
Big eye hook on top for hanging.
MIRROR WITH CODE #1150-04-XBF
The biggest one: 33cm diameter, mirror 16cm diameter.
I intentionally left the surface as distressed as it was, just protecting it with clear varnish and then polishing it to get a smooth, satin finish.
MIRROR WITH CODE #180-04-CRLH 3
Another truncated-circle shaped one, quite deep too. 26,5cm diameter, 14,5cm the diameter of the mirror.
I have painted the top ring of the 'frame' black and distressed it to match the rest. It is protected with clear varnish and polished for a smooth, satin finish.
Two picture hanger hooks on top.
MIRROR WITH CODE #600-04-RDLH
26cm diameter, 4cm deep with an 18cm diameter mirror. I have enhanced the industrial feel with a metallic 'v' shaped hook taken from an old kitchen tool (and polished).
Varnished and polished for a smooth satin finish, like the rest.
