Stitches -Table Lamp

Stitches is a warm, minimalist table lamp in the style of Midcentury Modern Scandinavian design, and the first one I make using a 'traditional' lamp shade.

Because I got this very nice papyrus rustic lamp shade from the early 60s, lovely aged in some parts, and not only I thought it would be fair to use it as it was, but wanted to give it the leadership of the  whole design.

So, instead of usig a usual stem, I mounted it on the bare wires of another (much less nicer) old lamp shade, letting the braided white cotton cord fall freely inside this structure.
Like this the shade seems to float on top of a nice round wooden base in the shape of a wooden ring (a former embroidery frame, maybe?) that has a soft, matching natural oiled finish. The bulb socket, switch and plug are also white.

Measures: 54cm high, 30cm diameter (shade), 32cm diameter (base).

Stitches table lamp from every angle, and some close-ups:

As usual, several shots taken during the making process: some of the parts used for 'Stitches' (when I was still considering adding an extra ring to the base -finally discarded in favour of clean minimalism)

After sanding the base and replacing the broken leg, I applied a high quality oil. Scrapping the lampshade wire that would make the stand
Wiring the bulb socket and the plug, as it had to be mounted prior the attachement of both the shade and the wire foot (shown in the next picture)
Fastening the wire to the wooden base, and finally connecting the switch to the cord
