Mª Antonieta Pendant Lamp

This was a nice vintage collapsible wire mesh basket, marked 'Maillinox' and 'Made in France' on its bottom part. Nice green colour, nice shape.. and terribly dirty.
I think that, more than to carry eggs, it was actually meant to carry a whole chicken inside, as it had a trap-like lid on top that could only open towards the inside!

I wanted to give a second chance to such a curious object, so I turned it upside-down and transformed it into a pendant lamp.
To create a funny contrast, I combined it with 'luxurious' parts, such as 14 chandelier multifaceted crystal drops, a huge green glass drop, loops of wire with green glass beads from India, a vintage chrome bulb socket (in perfect use condition, of course), an inox funnel, an enormous antique porcelain socket ring, 2 meters of transparent cord and an inox filter from a vintage expresso coffee maker.

With that mix of rural and 'chic' that make the pendant lamp look like a chandelier, and the basket being made in France, I could name it but Maria Antonieta! Certainly a curious conversation piece for any room in the house.

Mª Antonieta Pendant Lamp measures 26cm diameter at its widest point, 50cm long. It's ready to be hung -with the wire connector already attached-, and thanks to the long cord, it can form a nice loop from the electric box in the ceiling to another point.

Here are a couple of pictures of the basket before its transformation,
and some taken during the making process:
