It is always a pleasure to give a second life to a nice old box! This one might not have been more than a simple wooden crate with a lid to keep the tools back at the beginning of the last Century, but to me it was oozing personality. Nice shape, still sturdy, not a sign of wood worms and great size. Even the original colours -and the splashes of paint here and there on its surface deserved to be kept.
So, for this one, I have basicaly restored it, repairing the cracked wood and reinforcing the lid, sanding and repainting the inside (but using a similar light yellow tone), adding the missing hook for the hook clasp and slightly sanding, then protecting the outside with several coats of a shiny, very thick clear varnish -originally intended for floors- that gives a lacquered-like finish and makes all the original mix of colours stand out.
It measures 34 x 25cm, 14cm high. Perfect for the sewing kit, crafting materials and so on.
Here are quite a few pictures of the result, although they are not as nice as touching the real thing!
