A Shabby-Chic Floor Mirror
Here is a very pleasant commission from a lovely person(*)!
A great floor mirror that once was the door of a wardrobe: the keyhole and the lock are still there, but as it had no hinges (pivot system), it looks nicer as a floor mirror now.
Quite big -45.5 cm wide, 160cm high- nice oak wood and gorgeous beveled mirror!
Such a nice piece, that it would look good just after a proper cleaning, treating the wood (I spotted one hole that could be the work of wood worms, so better make sure) and sanding the frame to get out the lovely natural grain.
But I suggested to make it even more interesting by adding colour to the frame, with a distressing effect to preserve the 'antique' origin and making it a stand-out element in her bedroom. She agreed, and chose an off-white tone.
The general view picture doesn't make it justice! I had to be far away from it while shooting so all of it would be framed.. here are some close-ups that might give a better idea of the final result:
The mirror, before:
And some pictures of the 'making of' process: Sanding the surface and applying the first coat of paint,
Distressing -and adding a few brush strokes with a lighter tone of white afterwards, to create some 'depth' to the shabby-chic finish. Then it would be the varnishing and polishing, to protect and smooth the surface.
