Ladybug jewelry holder
Now, this is a useful trash sculpture! Tubby Ladybug flies over a set of trays that will hold your rings, chains and earrings so they're nicely displayed and easy to reach... the whole jewelry holder measures 28cm high, and the trays are 13 and 7cm wide.
Ladybug is made out of a strange piece of wood found on a flea market- does anyone know what was the original use for this? Not me.. but I loved the round shape and the fact that it had tiny green spots painted on both sides. I have left the piece as it was, only cleaned it and waxed it to preserve its 'vintage' look. The wings are made with tagua ('the vegetable ivory', a very hard nut from Ecuador that it's cut, polished and colored using natural plant dyes), the eyes are two coral beads. All this bits are attached with vintage nails, and Ladybug's 'mouth' is a black screw.
Everything is recycled in this piece: the foot used to be part of a coat hanger (I have painted it with a 'trashy' technique to match the looks of all the rest), the central wire was meant to be a barbecue spit (but I though it would be more useful here, twisted a bit, as it is quite strong!)and the trays are made out of a coffe machine filter (thoroughly polished & cleaned) and a small cake mould (scraped to give it a less-new look). To keep the upper tray on its place I have used a smaller tagua bead and a black clay one from Africa. You can tell that I like the mix of common, old and fancy parts... *grin*
