Mid Century Modern Stool, Completely Renewed

A lovely Mid Century Modern stool from the late 50s gets a new life by means of a complete restoration: the old upholstery needed total replacement and the solid beech structure had to be stripped from the cracked varnish plus treated against wood worms, and one of the legs needed to get strengthened -check the 'Making Of' section for a thorough step by step restoration process.

Now it is a solid, comfortable piece that will add a touch of colour to any room! See the pictures below for further details.

Measures: 52 x 32cm, 41cm high.

Here below, the stool in its original, sorry state
Removing the old upholstery, tack by tack, staple by staple
Stripping off the old cracked varnish and repairing the loose leg: I had to fabricate a new tongue for it, as the old joint had snapped
I also reinforced it with invisible nails. On the right, the treatment against wood worms
Once cured, filling all the little holes with wood putty. After a soft sanding, sealing the structure with clear varnish.
Reupholstering: attaching the rubber straps, the batting...
... and the groovy cotton fabric on top. I also covered the bottom area with a dust cloth (not shown)
