Gypsy Stool
Not my usual style for finishing a piece of furniture, but the quirky shape of this vintage chair-cut into-a-stool was screaming 'funky' and I had to oblige!
To do the free hand painting I chose a fresh, rather modern colour combination that highlights the carvings and playful features of the stool.
Now this piece will add a bright touch to any room, serving as an end table as well as a seat.
Measures: top surface is 43 x 38cm at its widest points, height is 42cm.
MAKING OF: Here on the right, the stool in its original, gloomy state.
It once was one of those chairs, so in vogue in the 70s, with a narrow board sticking out of the seat to serve as a -rather uncomfortable- back rest, that had already been cut out when I got it.
Below: repairing a wobbly leg and filling the gap left on the top surface by the once removed back rest. Then I sanded the whole piece (not shown)
Preparing the light teal colour, painting the top surface
Applying the aqua colour to the legs... after several hours of hand free painting there were just a few coats and the small details left.
