A cute commission! A lady requested a bed for her soon-to-arrive Chihuahua puppy: she wanted something out of the ordinary and extremely comfy -so we agreed on adapting a vintage wooden drawer from my collection, a nice one with round sides and a découpage of three orange roses on the front.
The size was right, but in addition to the cushion she also wanted a higher back and small legs to elevate the pet's bed from the floor. I chosed nice pieces of old wooden boards to match the rest of the drawer.
The whole piece is painted in an off-white tone, then slightly distressed to show the wood grain here and there. I have also created an aging effect with uneven, thin layers of paint on top of the découpage. All is protected with clear varnish and polished for a smooth, satin finish.
The cushion is made with a matching bright orange cotton fabric. Super comfy!
Measures: 40 x 27cm, 14cm high, 19cm back heigth.
Here on the left: the old drawer, in its original state.
Below: once cleaned and sanded, adapting the board to make the back rest; distressing the painted surfaces.
Adding the legs and polishing the whole piece once the varnish was dry.
