Old wooden fruit crate upcycled into a chest

¿Remember the toy box I made a while ago? Well, I enjoyed that project so much, and I love old wooden crates so much, that here is a new chest! ...and I'll surely make some more soon, 'cause this is a great solution for small appartments: it serves as coffe table, chest with big storage space, auxiliary table or an extra seat, while adding character and charm to the room.

This one has great red lettering (yay!), and a lid salvaged from a local groceries shop renovation with handmade perforations in the shape of a baguette and the word 'pan' (bread). Too cute. I have treated, sanded, painted and slightly distressed the inside of the crate and the top part of the lid in a deep red tone, to match the printed letters. The top surface is attached to a same-level old slat of pinewood with a pair of nice brass hinges taken from a vintage cabinet. I have also added four little casters to round the sturdy, practical, colourful rustic chest.

Measures: 50 x 36cm, 39cm high.

The main parts, prior their transformation
Making process: Sanding, and cutting the board to which the lid would be attached to
Treating the wood and removing the unsalvageable pieces on top of the handles (not replaced, as the lid rests more evenly directly on the 'body' of the box)
Painting the lid and the inside of the crate with a self-made dark red tone, then distressing those surfaces
Varnishing, and attaching the lid (plus adding the casters, then polish the whole piece, not shown)
