The main pieces of furniture are quite modern, with chromed and glass bits, and he wanted to add some warmer touches in wood and red (the colour of the company logo). So I unevenly sanded the edges of a chunky pinewood board and distressed the paint, but used a shiny coat of clear varnish and chromed hooks to match the clean, modern look of the rest of the room.
