Its origins are more modest, though: a lovely round pine surface from a common table that had 'lost' its legs and had a poor finish, a fiber wood board, a metallic bed -or sofa- leg and a vintage wooden walnut foot that was once the base for a Chrismas faux-pine tree!
Some detail pictures: I've used the same creamy tint finish of the pine surface for the ends of the foot, that also sport white-ish plastic tips; painted the underneath surface gray as the polished metallic tube, and added a new coffee pot rubber ring to embellish the link between the foot and the tube.
As for the making process, it went as follows: Selecting the parts -and finding the best way to attach the metallic tube to both the huge surface and the wooden foot.
Taking off the stripes of wood (and their nails) from the main surface, as it was going to be neatly secured with the 'second surface' underneath
Sanding the nice pine wood
Paint the 'second surface'
and kind of tint the wooden one, by using a highly dilluted water based enamel paint, a nice creamy colour.
Mounting all the parts -in the picture, the easy step of screwing the surface to the pole
Then, several coats of satin varnish, a very smooth creamy colour to add up to the tinted surface... finishing it all off with a thorough polish till it was smooth as silk! Mmm
The Retro Ronda coffee table has a diameter of 70cm, and is 43cm high.
I couldn't resit to post this one! Here is Oscar, making the picture look interesting -once again.
