Fungo
Don't know about you, but I love mushrooms. Pizza Funghi is my favourite, and so I decided to name this new lamp by the Italian name. It has the same shape!
Curiously enough, the idea came after (accidentally) breaking the china pot where I kept my dog's treats.. it was an old one with the lid secured by a wire, and decided to keep this -not knowing exactly what for.
And then I found the glass shade of a vintage lamp in a thrift shop, and something went *click* in my head: the wire fitted perfectly well in its base! Then, finding a pot with the appropiate heigth and diameter wasn't easy, but finally I did. And the mushroom lamp was almost there...
The rest of parts are a cable with plug and switch (white, to match the glass bit), a salvaged thick black rubber band (for the glass brim), a lamp holder, screws, a washer and a rubber ring recovered from an old iron (to protect the cable through the hole in the metallic pot), a round piece of wood to secure the lampholder (painted black) and, to add weight to the base... a vintage dark glass ashtray. The best use you can give to an ashtray, I may say...
So, this minimal yet surprising lamp is 30cm high, the diameter of the base is 11cm and that of the glass top is 24cm. It is very easy to change the bulb, you only have to open the 'lid', as if it was the original pot. And it gives a soothing light, great to create a cozy atmosphere in any corner. Yummy!
