Dragonfly Pendant

It is a relief that soon I will be able to be crafting -almost- full time! Because at the moment I can only snatch a few hours here and there for making stuff... this last one has been a commission from a really sweet lady.
She liked my 'bugs' and wanted one as a pendant, said it was ok if it was big and left the design entirely to me, counting on my instinctive knowledge of her personality: a dream customer! wow.

So I chose a very special piece for her: a dragonfly made out of an antique slender wooden spoon. Traditionally, dragonflies have symbolized the renewal after a time of great hardship and have been used in jewelry as 'healing' charms, capable of turning negative energies into positive forces... I wanted this one to be dainty and very elegant, with a flair of 'old times' look mixed up with a pinch of extravaganza!

The dragonfly's body is the antique little spoon. Then, its wings are made out of a pair of vintage earrings from the seventies, two pieces of enameled clay that I cut and sanded on one end to be able to attach them to the 'body'.
I took real care on making this attachement strong, as it would be the weakest part of the pendant. Being so, its reverse has a tagua aquamarine green bead to fill the hollow part of the spoon and be able to secure the wings, also holding the piece that reinforce the attachement with epoxy glue. It is a part of the bronze clasp from a small box.

To finish with the parts of the Dragonfly, the head is a big Indian lime green glass bead, and the eyes are a pair of thick bronze washes from an old necklace from Tibet. The antennas are twisted bronzed wire.

The necklace is made with different bits of recovered bronzed thin chains, a matching ring and carved bead, plus quite a few Indian glass beads irregularly placed. Their colours -deep green, lime green and aquamarine blue- match the dragonfly's wings. It has two lines linking the side chains that create a triple loop effect and add drama to the whole display.
The closure is a bronze dainty hook, and it sports a dangling piece of chain with a tiny glass bead on its end, serving for both adjusting and aesthetic purposes.

I think it is the first time I took pictures of the packaging of one of my pieces... there will be more of those in the coming posts. Being this an 'official' commission for the soon-to-be-born 1UNIK label, I decided to add the logo and use the brand colours, but with a festive and funky display!
So, the 'jewelry' box is a small round one for a pie. Yes, for a pie. The pendant is wrapped up in black silk paper inside, and the flaps of the box are attached with black raffia strings. The label holds the logo and has a handwritten note in the back.
I really wanted to show my appreciation.. now let's see if she likes it: she hasn't checked the result yet, it is a complete surprise!
