Orange Blossom Espressa Desk Lamp

It was about time: finally, a metallic desk lamp with a twist of colour! Its name is an obvious hint to one of my favourite songs... Orange Blossom Espressa is made with the base of an espresso machine, a cutlery pot, a small drawer knob and several parts taken from vintage lamps -like the flexible gooseneck and the 'lid' for the base.

I have spray painted the pull and neck in a cheerful bright orange colour, and added a matching cotton cord. The toggle switch and other slick details add up to the 'designy' look of this practical lamp, that also casts dramatic shadows when it's lit on.

Measures: 44cm high at average position, base 9,5cm diameter, 9cm high.

THE MAKING OF: Here below, the main parts used to make the lamp
Spray painting the goose neck and the finial, bending the support for the bulb socket
Once cleaned and polished, taking the valve off the espresso machine base and mounting the toggle switch into its future 'lid'. On the right, making two holes in the future shade bigger to be able to adapt the bulb socket and lamp neck later on.
Mounting the bulb socket and screwing the gooseneck in place.
The orange band in the base is made with strong insulating tape in the same bright orange colour as the spray painted parts. On the right, fastening a rubber brim to the base in order to be able to attach the 'lid' properly. You can also see the weight inside: it's a big cobble stone!
Wiring the plug and making the rest of connections... and finally testing the lamp prior the final assemblage.

And here is a great cover of that great song, done by a great man at a very special event. Enjoy!
